Seating in NVIDIA Auditorium is extremely limited for this event. While ETL is open to the public, priority access to this talk will be given to Stanford students currently enrolled in MS&E 472, followed by all other current Stanford students. Overflow on-screen viewing will be available to those who do not secure a seat in the auditorium.

Sam Altman is the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company behind ChatGPT and DALL·E. Altman was president of the early-stage startup accelerator Y Combinator from 2014 to 2019. In 2015, he co-founded OpenAI as a nonprofit research lab with the mission to build general-purpose artificial intelligence that benefits all humanity.

Prior to founding OpenAI, Altman co-founded Loopt, an app that allowed users to share their locations, in 2005. Loopt was one of the first companies to receive funding from Y Combinator.

Altman was named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world and CEO of the Year in 2023, Forbes’ Top Investor Under 30 in 2015, and one of Businessweek’s Best Young Entrepreneurs and Technology in 2008.
