Garry Tan is president and CEO of Y Combinator, which funds hundreds of companies per year via web-based application, creating more than $600 billion in market value so far. Before becoming CEO, he was a partner at Y Combinator from 2011 to 2015, where he built key parts of the YC experience for founders, including Bookface and the Demo Day website. 

Tan is the co-founder, board partner and advisor of Initialized Capital, an early stage venture capital fund, and co-founded Posterous (YC S08), a blog platform acquired by Twitter.  Prior to that, he was an early designer and engineering manager at Palantir, where he designed the company logo. 

Tan was named among the 2023 San Francisco Power 100 and was a 2021 Business Insider Top 100 Seed Investor. He was listed among the Forbes Midas Top 100 Global Venture Capitalists from 2019-2022. Tan holds a bachelor’s in computer systems engineering from Stanford.
