Kathleen Eisenhardt is the S.W. Ascherman M.D. Professor of Strategy and Organization at Stanford’s School of Engineering. She is a member of STVP, the Stanford Engineering Entrepreneurship Center and the Digital Economy Lab. Among the most widely cited entrepreneurship scholars in the world, Eisenhardt is the author of over 100 articles in research and business journals and several books. Her most recent book (with Don Sull), “Simple Rules: How to Survive in a Complex World,” was designated a top business book by the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and the Washington Post. An accomplished teacher of several popular undergrad and graduate courses, she particularly enjoys bringing research insights into the classroom.

Eisenhardt’s research sits at the nexus of entrepreneurship and strategy, where she focuses on high-velocity markets and technology-based firms. Her work spans a variety of industries, ranging from the internet, clean tech, software, and semiconductors to agribusiness, online fashion, drones, and biotech. She is currently studying exceptional-growth ventures as well as strategy-making in new marketplaces, community vs. firm innovation, and business model design. 

Eisenhardt was named to the Thinkers50 list of the most influential global thought-leaders in business. Her research has won many honors, including the Global Entrepreneurship Research Award. Her practice-focused articles were the first to be featured in the Harvard Business Review OnPoint collection. 

Eisenhart holds a BS degree in mechanical engineering and MS degree in computer science, as well as six honorary doctorate degrees. Her PhD is from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
