George Scangos, PhD, has served as Vir Biotechnology’s president and CEO and as a member of its board of directors since January 2017. He previously served as CEO and as a member of the board of directors of Biogen, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company focused on treating neurological diseases, and also held roles as president and CEO of Exelixis, president of Bayer Biotechnology, and professor of biology at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Scangos currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Cornell University and the Board of Overseers of the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Scangos received his BA in biology from Cornell University and a PhD in microbiology from the University of Massachusetts.
